Dubai Police Impound 30 Vehicles Over Unpaid Traffic Fines

Dubai Police Impound 30 Vehicles Over Unpaid Traffic Fines

Dubai Police has impounded around 30 vehicles after their owners allowed unpaid traffic fines to exceed Dh6,000. The action highlights the importance of settling traffic penalties on time, as authorities continue to use smart technology to identify vehicles with outstanding violations.

Vehicles Can Be Impounded After Dh6,000 in Fines

Dubai Police Impound 30 Vehicles Over Unpaid Traffic Fines

Under Dubai’s vehicle impoundment rules, a vehicle can be seized when its accumulated traffic fines exceed Dh6,000. Some of the vehicles impounded had fines running into tens of thousands of dirhams.

Owners must clear their outstanding fines before their vehicles can be released.

Smart Systems Help Police Detect Vehicles

Dubai Police is using advanced number-plate recognition systems to identify vehicles with outstanding legal or traffic issues. These systems can detect vehicles while they are being driven or even parked in public areas.

Motorists approaching the Dh6,000 threshold may also receive text messages and smart notifications reminding them to settle their fines.

Drivers Urged Not to Delay Payments

Police have advised motorists to pay their fines and renew vehicle registrations on time. Some impounded vehicles were also found with registrations that had remained expired for several years.

Authorities have also warned drivers against deliberately delaying payments while waiting for possible fine-discount campaigns. Such initiatives are not guaranteed and are introduced based on traffic and road-safety assessments.

A Reminder for Dubai Motorists

Nobody wants an unpaid traffic fine to turn into a bigger headache. But that can happen, with enforcement action potentially leading to a vehicle being impounded. So, it’s worth checking your fines from time to time and keeping your vehicle registration valid. Simple enough. And it could help avoid unnecessary legal and financial problems later.
