Dubai Police is using advanced number-plate recognition systems to identify vehicles with outstanding legal or traffic issues. These systems can detect vehicles while they are being driven or even parked in public areas.
Motorists approaching the Dh6,000 threshold may also receive text messages and smart notifications reminding them to settle their fines.
Police have advised motorists to pay their fines and renew vehicle registrations on time. Some impounded vehicles were also found with registrations that had remained expired for several years.
Authorities have also warned drivers against deliberately delaying payments while waiting for possible fine-discount campaigns. Such initiatives are not guaranteed and are introduced based on traffic and road-safety assessments.
