The BMW 5 series is one of the oldest vehicle models in continuous production by BMW. The BMW 5 series was first produced in 1972 and was initially available only as a sedan vehicle. The touring variants or referred to as wagon/ estate was added in 1991 and a fastback version was introduced from 2009 to 2017.

The first-generation BMW 5 Series was referred to as the E21 and had a production run from 1972 to 1981. This was powered by six-cylinder petrol or 4 cylinder engines. The six-cylinder engine can produce up to 174 horsepower at 5800 rpm and up to 246 N.m of torque at 4500 rpm.  Since the first generation, the BMW 5 Series has gained a cult following of fans due to its performance, exceptional handling, luxury styling, and reliability.

Fast forward to 2020 the latest generation of the BMW 5 series is still considered as one of the best executive cars in the market. The 7th generation BMW 5 series or referred to as the G30 for loyal followers is the perfect balance of luxury and performance.

The 7th generation BMW 5 series was first officially introduced on October 12, 2016, and was available for purchase in the dealership in February. The BMW 5 Series has a complete lineup of variants from models with 4 cylinder petrol engines to 6-cylinders, a plug-in hybrid version, and the much-coveted performance version the BMW M550i xDrive. The BMW 5 series will definitely make its presence felt with its iconic kidney grilles and sleek front bumpers. The integrated headlights and chrome accents highlight the sedan’s class and its daytime running light accentuate its aggressive character. The side profile of the BMW 5 series closely echoes that of its bigger cousin the BMW 7 series both of which share design platforms.

The side view of the BMW 5 series is very distinctive with its sleek lines and arching aerodynamic profile. The Hofmeister kink is very prominent on the C-pillar of the 5 series which melds beautifully with the roofline. The beautiful front and sleek side are then complemented by a wonderfully sculpted rear fascia with prominent twin exhaust and large clear integrated taillights.

The BMW 530i and 530i xDrive represent the base model of the 5 series. The variant is equipped with SansaTec upholstery together with Fineline ridge wood interior trim, anthracite headliners. The fronts seats are powered 16-ways including 2-way power side bolsters, 4-way lumbar support, and memory system including the steering for the driver. 40/20/ 40 slit fold-down through load rear seats. Automatic climate control with dual-zone temperature and micro-filter ventilation systems.

The variant is equipped with a HiFi sound system with 12 speakers and a 205-watt digital amplifier. The audio system also has a builtin anti-theft in-dash stereo with Radio Data System (RDS) on board. The infotainment system of the BMW 5 series also has Apple CarPlay Compatibility, BMW TeleServices, and BMW Remote services including  Stolen Vehicle Recovery, Remote Door Unlock, and BMW connected apps. The car also has an advanced vehicle and key memory which includes presets for climate control, exterior mirror controls, power seating, lighting controls, and central locking.

The instrument and controls for the driver of the BMW 530i and 530i xDrive is equipped with the BMW LiveCockpit Professional features with a 12.3’ instrument cluster and 10.25”  central information display. The digital instrument cluster is designed for optimum readability even in dark or bright driving conditions. The car also has expanded check control vehicle monitor, speed limit information, dynamic cruise control, tire pressure monitor and outside temperature display. The car also has an engine start/ stop button standard.

The BMW 530i is equipped with a 2.0-liter 4 cylinder engine 16-valve twin-turbo. The engine twin-scroll turbo and Double Vanos and Valve Tronic are able to produce up to 248 horsepower at 5200 rpm and torque of 258 lb-ft at 4800 rpm. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed sport automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The engine is equipped with an air curtain and air breather system, electronic throttle controls, brake energy regeneration, and auto start-stop functions.

The vehicle is equipped with Dynamic Stability Control (DCS) which includes brake fade compensation, start-off assisting, and dynamic traction controls (DTC). It is equipped with a 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), Dynamic Brake Control (BDC), and Cornering Brake Control (CBC) for better vehicle stability even in harsh driving conditions. Its front suspension is a double-wishbone multi-link system and integral-V multi-link rear suspension for comfortable driving even in uneven roads.

Driver’s and passenger’s front airbag with supplemental restraint system (SRS) that comes with built-in advanced technology, dual-threshold, and dual-stage deployment. Seat-mounted front side-impact built-in to the seats and 3-point safety belts with force limiters and head restraints at all seating positions.
