16 November-The International Day Of Tolerance

Celebrate the International Day of Tolerance with eZhire:

Today is the International Day of Tolerance, designated by the UN in 1996. The United Nations is committed to strengthening tolerance by fostering mutual understanding among cultures and peoples. This imperative lies at the core of the United Nations Charter, as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and is more important than ever in this era of rising extremism and violent conflicts that are characterized by a fundamental disregard for human life.

Today it is also a day to bring awareness and educate the public about the need for tolerance in our global society threatened by violence, discrimination, racism and exclusion of ethnic, religious and socio-economic minorities.

Here are some powerful quotes about the concept of Tolerance:

“If you judge people you have no time to love them.” -Mother Tresa

“In the practice of tolerance one’s enemy is the best teacher.” — Dalai Lama

“Our indifference or cruelty towards fellow creatures of this world sooner or later affects the treatment we mete out to other human beings” — Pope Francis

“In order to have faith in his own path, he does not need to prove that someone else’s path is wrong.” — Paulo Coelho

“A society will be judged on the basis of how it treats its weakest members.” — Pope John Paul II

According to the declaration of principles on tolerance by UNESCO:

“Tolerance is harmony in difference. It is not only a moral duty, it is also a political and legal requirement”.

On this day, we are encouraged to educate and learn how to practice solidarity between ethnic, social and cultural groups.

So today let’s take an oath to be tolerant, to give others the freedom to choose their emotions, while you maintain yours.

Carry out the practice with resolve and you will love the new you.

Peace:
